Heather Baker

Heather is a Contemporary Voice Teacher based in the North-West of England and a Founding Director of the Institute for Vocal Advancement, delivering training to voice teachers and singers globally.

Heather has learnt from some of the greatest teachers in the world and has been continuously studying vocal pedagogy since 2001, attending training through SLS, IVA, BVA, AOTOS, NATS and VASTA. In 2024 she received an MA with Distinction in Vocal Pedagogy through the Voice Study Centre and The University of Wales (Trinity St. David) where she focussed on the Neurological processes involved in voice training.

Heather has presented at a variety of conferences including IVACON in California (2014,2015 and 2017), Edinburgh (2015 and 2024), Vienna (2019), Munich (2025) and online (2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023); The Music Education Solutions Conference (2022); VASTA, Mexico (2023); AOTOS Development Day (2024); and ISME Conference, Finland (2024). In 2019 she delivered a TEDX Talk on the Joy of Singing. She has been a guest on industry podcasts such as 'The Intelligent Vocalist' with John Henny and 'Singing Teachers Talk' and she is a co-host of 'The Vocal Advancement Podcast' with IVA CEO Tom Bathgate.

Heather has travelled extensively delivering Masterclasses in vocal technique and voice teaching all over the UK, USA, Australia, Israel, Malta, Romania, Japan, South Korea and China.  Her private clients include gigging musicians, songwriters, West-end and Broadway Performers, Voice teachers, television personalities, signed artists, MOBO Award and Mercury Award nominees, Malta Music Award winners and a vast selection of amateur singers. She has been consulted for nation wide music industry books and local news articles; she has been a guest lecturer at institutes such as The University of Lancashire and Lymm High School Sixth Form College and has lectured regularly at The Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA) for 2 years on the music course. Heather has also taught at the legendary Seth Riggs Summer vocal Programme in LA and the SLS international teacher's conference in Salt Lake City.
